The Drug Free Schools Committee consists of school-based representatives from the schools (public, private and parochial) in Region 5, and other coalition Members, at least one (1) of whom shall be directly involved with the provision of substance abuse prevention or treatment services to school-aged children in grades K-12; and at least one (1) of whom shall be directly involved in the provision of prevention or treatment services to college-aged youth. One member of the committee will be a member of the WCTC Board of Directors and serve as a liaison to the WCTC board. Other members are not required to be Members of the Corporation.
The Drug Free Schools Committee assist WCT coalition in assessing school-based mental health promotion, substance abuse prevention, early intervention, treatment and aftercare service needs and assets, in the region. They contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the coalition’s annual workplan; and they promote collaboration among school-based services throughout Region 5. During the school year, the DFS Committee provides education and awareness programs for students, teachers, parents, pupil personnel staff, school resource officers and others.
The DFS Committees meet on the third Wednesday of the month between September and June from 8-9 am at various locations.
